Below is a listing of Special Events and Workshops that Down South Swing and/or our instructors are involved with or are producing.
Information about the myriad other events and workshops can be found through links on our More Swing Links page.
Last Call Blues is a monthly Blues Dance held the last Saturday night of the month at a roving location. One day it might have a permanent home, but for now it's a like Blues rave! Featuring DJs and the occasional live band, you'll get to dance to a wide variety of blues music, from Delta Blues to Motown and everything in between! DSS Director and instructor Evin Galang runs this with a passionate crew of Blues afficionadoes.
Hot Jam is a weekly swing dance held every Monday night in a little cabin tucked in the woods of metro Atlanta. Run by Down South Swing's very own Michelle Postles and her crew of hellions, Hot Jam caters to those who love original swing music or who just want to dance their brains out.
Graveyard Tavern hosts a weekly dance every Wednesday featuring the house band, The Gravediggers. Playing a variety of swing classics, The Gravediggers cater to the dancers with a wide range of tempos and styles. With a wonderful menu of food and drinks, Graveyard Tavern is a fantastic venue for both dancers and non-dancers alike! A beginner lesson is offered weekly by a different DSS instructor.
Southern Belle Swing Bash is a weekend workshop event devoted especially to the ladies of Lindy Hop; it is held in Atlanta every fall. The event focuses on helping followers to develop their technique, styling, and dance personality through follow-focused classes. Former instructor Gina Helfrich is a founder and organizer of this event. Gina now lives in Boston, if you please, Massachusetts. She teaches at Harvard. Yeah. She teaches at Harvard.
Down South Camp Meeting was a fun weekend workshop started by Joel Domoe, and we hope to see it revived one day...
Swing Out New Hampshire is a dance camp focusing primarily on Lindy Hop, offering four full days of classes and five nights of dancing at Camp Wicosuta in Hebron, NH. Wicosuta is a real kids' summer camp, and each summer, at the end of August, it transforms into SONH over an extended Labor Day Weekend.
