From time to time, Down South Swing offers exciting one-day intensive courses.  Sometimes they will be with your local DSS instructors, sometimes with special guest instructors.  Often, the workshops will cover Swing-Era dances, but occasionally you will find a Tango, Hip-Hop, Belly dancing or other interesting class.  You can be sure of one thing, though:  They're always fun!  We hope you'll join us for a class!  Please see all of our policies and other important info HERE.

Jazz 101: Shim Sham...Shazam!!

No pre-req! All the dancers in the room taken?  Still gotta cut a rug?  Do it to it with some solo Jazz!  Vernacular Jazz is an important and integral part of our Lindy Hop vocabulary and will really help you to feel comfortable with different rhythms. You'll learn the ubiquitous Shim Sham, a classic piece of vintage choreography, some variations on that theme, and some sweet ways to add the steps to your Lindy or 6-count!  Come get crazy with the jazz!!
