SOUTH SWING PHILOSOPHY At Down South Swing our mission is to provide the very best in Swing Dance instruction, performance and demonstrations. We offer all levels of classes from Beginner (let us help you shake off those "two left feet") to Masters classes. We also organize student-instructor outings to the exciting Swing Dance venues to have fun on the dance floor! Add some dance to your life with our great beginner lessons. Down South Swing was the vision of our founders, Ben Lovelace, Peter Zellner and Joel Domoe. They sought to create an organization not just focused on classes, but centered on creating a community of dancers. We still hold their same vision and strive to bring the joy of dance to people all over the Atlanta area! Swing is a social dance, and we gear our lessons to make dance easily accessible to regular people. While we teach the fundamentals as building blocks that can be used to develop into performance quality dancing, we keep in mind that everyone has different goals regarding dance, but the primary one is to have fun. Swing dancing is also an amazing way to connect to American history. Truly an American art form and cultural movement, Swing puts us in touch with our collective past while always keeping a foot in the present and an eye on the future! Down South Swing also encourages individuality and creativity in swing dance. We recognize that swing is not only a social, but also a living cultural artform that varies in style depending not only on the personality of the individual dancer, but also according to regional and musical influences. Our instruction and performance recognizes this. We teach and perform many specific styles, but stress the universal tools of dance, providing them for use in creating your own specialized art. It is the mission of Down South Swing to promote, educate, invigorate and empower the communities we are fortunate enough to serve. We do this both through our own work and through collaborative efforts with other businesses and organizations.
